  • American Alliance of Museums (AAM)

    The American Alliance of Museums’ mission is to nurture excellence in museums through advocacy and service. AAM supports 21,000 museums, individuals and companies by developing standards and best practices; providing resources and career development; and advocating for museums to thrive.     American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC)

    The American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC) is the national membership organization of conservation professionals. Its members include conservators, educators, scientists, students, archivists, art historians, and other conservation enthusiasts in over twenty countries around the world.     American Society of Picture Professionals (ASPP)

    The American Society of Picture Professionals is a large community of image experts committed to sharing experience and knowledge throughout the industry. Its mission is to provide professional networking and educational opportunities for members and the visual arts industry. ASPP is for anyone who creates, edits, researches, licenses, distributes, manages or publishes visual content.

    Art Libraries Society / Australia and New Zealand (ARLIS/ANZ)

    The Arts Libraries Society / Australia and New Zealand acts as a forum for the exchange of information and expertise, and cooperates with other national and international organizations in the field of arts information management. The membership includes architecture and art librarians, visual resources professionals, artists, curators, educators, publishers, booksellers and others interested in arts information management.

    Art Libraries Society / UK & Ireland (ARLIS/UK & Ireland)

    ARLIS/UK & Ireland: the Art Libraries Society is the professional organisation for people involved in providing library and information services and documenting resources in the visual arts.

    Art Libraries Society Norden (ARLIS/Norden)

    ARLIS/Norden is an association for Nordic art libraries and art librarians. It aims to further every aspect of art librarianship in the Nordic countries. Members are libraries within the subject areas of art, industrial art and design, architecture, photography and adjacent areas.

    Association of Academic Museums & Galleries (AAMG)

    The Association of Academic Museums and Galleries is the leading educational and professional organization for academic museums, galleries, and collections. In recognition of the unique opportunities and challenges of its constituents, the AAMG establishes and supports best practices, educational activities and professional development that enable its member organizations to fulfill their educational missions.

    Association of Architecture School Librarians (AASL)

    The Association of Architecture School Librarians (AASL) has three primary objectives: to advance academic architectural librarianship; to develop and enhance the role of architecture school librarians in the advancement of architectural education; and to promote a spirit of cooperation among members of the profession.

    Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL)

    The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), a division of the American Library Association, is a professional association of academic librarians and other interested individuals. It is dedicated to enhancing the ability of academic library and information professionals to serve the information needs of the higher education community and to improve learning, teaching, and research.     Association of Curators of Art and Design Images (ACADI)

    ACADI Objectives: Promote the status of visual resources curators; Highlight the importance of image collections within education; Mutual support and the exchange of information and ideas; Establish standards for the proper management of visual resources collections in art and design education; Investigate current training available to visual resources curators and encourage greater provision.

    Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T)

    Since 1937, the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) has been the association for information professionals leading the search for new and better theories, techniques, and technologies to improve access to information. ASIS&T brings together diverse streams of knowledge, focusing what might be disparate approaches into novel solutions to common problems. ASIS&T bridges the gaps not only between disciplines but also between the research that drives and the practices that sustain new developments.     Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA)

    Established to advance the field of moving image archiving by fostering cooperation among individuals and organizations concerned with the acquisition, description, preservation, exhibition and use of moving image materials.

    Association for Recorded Sound Collections (ARSC)

    Dedicated to the preservation and study of sound recordings, in all genres of music and speech, in all formats, and from all periods. ARSC is unique in bringing together private individuals and institutional professionals—everyone with a serious interest in recorded sound.

    Association of Registrars and Collections Specialists (ARCS)

    The Mission of ARCS is to represent and promote Registrars and Collections Specialists, nationally and internationally, to educate them in the professional best practices of registration and collections care, and to facilitate communication and networking.

    Association of Research Libraries (ARL)

    The Association of Research Libraries is a nonprofit organization of 125 research libraries at comprehensive, research-extensive institutions in the US and Canada that share similar research missions, aspirations, and achievements.

    Coalition for Networked Information (CNI)

    The Coalition for Networked Information is an organization dedicated to supporting the transformative promise of digital information technology for the advancement of scholarly communication and the enrichment of intellectual productivity. Some 200 institutions representing higher education, publishing, information technology, scholarly and professional organizations, foundations, and libraries and library organizations make up CNI’s members.

    Computers and the History of Art (CHArt)

    CHArt was established in 1985 by art and design historians who happened also to be computer enthusiasts. Initially a forum for the exchange of ideas between people who were using computers in their research, the largely academic membership was soon augmented by members from museums and art galleries, as well as individuals involved in the management of the visual and textual archives and libraries relevant to the subject. CHArt is a society open to all who have an interest in the application of computers to the study of art and design. We hold an annual conference and publish the conference proceedings, run an email discussion list and keep in contact with our members through a newsletter.     Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts (CCAHA)

    The Conservation Center for Art & Historic Artifacts’ mission is to provide expertise and leadership in the preservation of the world’s cultural heritage. CCAHA specializes in the treatment of works of art and artifacts on paper, such as drawings, prints, maps, posters, historic wallpaper, photographs, rare books, scrapbooks, and manuscripts, as well as related materials such as parchment and papyrus.

    Council of Library and Information Resources (CLIR)

    The Council on Library and Information Resources is an independent, nonprofit organization that forges strategies to enhance research, teaching, and learning environments in collaboration with libraries, cultural institutions, and communities of higher learning.

    Digital Libraries Federation (DLF)

    The Digital Library Federation, a program of the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR), is a robust and diverse community of practitioners who advance research, teaching and learning through the application of digital library research, technology and services. DLF serves as a resource and catalyst for collaboration among digital library developers, project managers, and all who are invested in digital library issues.

    EDUCAUSE

    EDUCAUSE is a nonprofit association and the foremost community of IT leaders and professionals committed to advancing higher education.     Getty Research Institute

    The Getty Research Institute is dedicated to furthering knowledge and advancing understanding of the visual arts and their various histories through its expertise, active collecting program, public programs, institutional collaborations, exhibitions, publications, digital services, and residential scholars programs.

    Humanities, Arts, Science, and Technology Advanced Collaboratory (HASTAC)

    HASTAC (“haystack”) is an alliance of individuals and institutions inspired by the possibilities that new technologies offer us for shaping how we learn, teach, communicate, create, and organize our local and global communities.

    Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)

    The mission of IMLS is to inspire libraries and museums to advance innovation, lifelong learning, and cultural and civic engagement. IMLS provides leadership through research, policy development, and grant making.

    JISC Digital Media

    JISC helps the UK’s higher education, furthers education and skills communities embrace and maximizes the use of digital media (still images, sound and video). Through online resources, help desk and consultancy services, JISC helps education providers to use digital media in innovative, practical and cost-effective ways.

    Leading Change Institute

    The Leading Change Institute, sponsored by the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) and successor to the Frye Leadership Institute, engages leaders who seek to further develop their skills for the benefit of higher education. The Institute explores higher education challenges, empowering librarians and information technologists to initiate conversations and take action on issues of importance not just to their individual institutions, but to the entire higher education community.

    Museum Computer Network (MCN)

    The Museum Computer Network supports museum information professionals and the greater community by providing opportunities to explore and disseminate new technologies and best practices in the field.

    Museumsandtheweb.com is a collaborative space for professionals creating culture, science and heritage on-line, hosted by the Museums and the Web team.

    National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education (NITLE)

    The National Institute for Technology in Liberal Education helps liberal arts colleges and universities integrate inquiry, pedagogy, and technology.

    Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC)

    NEDCC’s Imaging Services department provides high-quality digital imaging and specializes in rare, historic, and oversize materials, as well as X-Ray Film scanning and reformatting for black and white and color negative films and color transparencies. The Center’s Preservation Services department offers training, assessments, consultations, free web resources, and 24-hour disaster assistance for collections.

    OCLC Research Library Partnership

    For libraries and other research institutions who want to invest money and staff in collaboratively designing their future services, the OCLC Research Library Partnership (formerly RLG) is a global alliance of like-minded institutions that focuses on making operational processes more efficient and shaping new scholarly services by directly engaging senior managers.

    Online Audiovisual Catalogers, Inc. (OLAC)

    An international organization for catalogers concerned with all types of nonprint materials. Through conferences, workshops, publications, and e-mail lists, catalogers exchange information and enjoy expert & practical advice on cataloging audiovisual materials.

    Overleg Kunst(historische) Bibliotheken Nederland * ARLIS/Netherlands (OKBN * ARLIS/NL)

    OKBN * ARLIS/NL is an alliance of Dutch art and reference librarians who work for libraries or institutions specialized in the field of (the history of) the visual arts and architecture.

    Picture Licensing Universal System (PLUS)

    The PLUS Coalition is an international non-profit organization with a tightly focused mission: to simplify and facilitate the communication and management of image rights.

    Society of American Archivists (SAA)
