The VRA's main sources of operating revenue are membership dues, conference income, and targeted donations. Donations have become increasingly important since the membership base and conference proceeds are vulnerable to fluctuations in the economy. VRA is soliciting donations for two funds and purposes:
1) the Luraine Tansey Educational Fund, which provides travel awards to assist VRA members with conference attendance,
2) the General Operating Fund, which supports VRA activities and organizational work.
Other important areas of fund raising are sponsorships for the VRA conference and the fund raising activities held there annually. VRA's Development Committee provides specific information about these opportunities as this event approaches. The VRA is a 501(c) 6 tax exempt, non-profit, trade association. Contributions are not deductible as charitable donations for federal income tax purposes, but donations may be deducted as a business expense, if applicable to your tax situation.
The VRA Foundation works in concert with the VRA and focuses fund raising activities on Education and Research initiatives. Donations support current and emerging grant programs and projects that advance scholarship in the field, improve outreach to the larger community on significant issues, and further public access to visual resources information. The VRAF is a 501(c) 3 charitable non-profit organization. Donations are tax-deductible as provided under section 170 of the Internal Revenue Tax Code.
